What is a Rootkit ?

Rootkit is a type of malicious software that gives the attacker a privileged position on the system. Rootkits can be used to conceal other malware, which makes it difficult for the user to detect and remove the malware.




A rootkit may be installed in several ways, including:


- Installed as part of another application


- Installed by exploiting a vulnerability in an operating system or software program


- Inserted into an operating system kernel or boot sector


- Embedded within hardware circuitry
